In 2016, the Western Australian State Government and the City of Joondalup co-funded the eco shark barrier at Sorrento Beach.
The eco shark barrier at Sorrento Beach is approximately 770 metres long and 400 metres wide, which includes 270 metres of barrier in the water. The enclosure is installed in deep water from the south wall of the Hillary’s Boat Harbour to the existing groyne on the beach.
Eco Shark Barrier Pty Ltd overcame some of the site challenges, including the presence of reef and the sea wall by using chains and greater weights on anchors at specific points.
The eco shark barrier is installed in deep water for much of the enclosure at Sorrento Beach. While this is more challenging, it also demonstrates the barrier’s ability to withstand
