In 2016, the Western Australian State Government and the City of Joondalup co-funded the eco shark barrier at Sorrento Beach.
Installation details
The eco shark barrier at Sorrento Beach is approximately 670 metres long and 400 metres wide, which includes 270 metres of barrier off the beach. The enclosure is installed in deep water from the south wall of the Hillary’s Boat Harbour to the existing groyne on the beach.
Eco Shark Barrier Pty Ltd overcame some of the site challenges, including the presence of reef and the sea wall by using chains and greater weights on anchors at specific points.
